|
|
I'm Trying to set up a help forum on my website.
Here's what I did so far.
I Used WsFTP and loaded the Phpbb files to FTP public/incoming
Tried to view and install by using my browser and typing in (homepage.com/public_ftp/incoming.
This did not work and got the 404 error
Moved the files to just public.ftp and got same error code.
I see all the files are sitting in two locations on my site and cant seem to delete them so I can start over.
I just can't seem to logic my way through this. |

Hi Terry. We have easy installation of phpBB available via the Fantastico icon in your cPanel.
However, if you wish to manually upload and install, you should decide what directory you want the forum to be in. For example, do you want it show up when you type in http://www.example.com/forum? Then you would need to create a folder called forum in the public_html folder (i.e. /public_html/forum/) and then put all the phpBB files into the /public_html/forum/ folder, set the permissions as needed and generally follow the directions that phpBB provides you.
The public_ftp folder is for the sending and receiving of files. They have nothing to do with the website.

I went into file manager and put the files where they should be. I also tried to use fantastco and I got the a database is all used message.
I went to C-panel and went to My SQL and it said that i already had a data base of 2.01MB called per1001_sitemagixprod.
I don't know what that means. I have set up no data bases that I am aware of and an not sure what would happen if I deleted this one.
If I need more room let's just do it. |

The sitemagixprod database is for your SiteBuilder sites. I will gladly add an extra db to your account at no cost.

Well this time when I tried fantasico it took off. After a minute it gave me the You have reached the maximum of allowed MySQL databases. Fantastico can not proceed with installations until you upgrade your account or reduce the number of used databases (for example by uninstalling a script).
But, it had a couple of options so I clicked the visit website and low and behold the forum was there. I went back to the browser and typed in mypage/forum and it poped right up. Even though I got the error.
I did not get, nor do I know how to get, the setup screen that allows me to set up the forums and the permissions. I was able to log on as the administrator though. Something tells me this was all too easy and I should have just jumped into the setup mode at least that's what the php site said when it first came up.
I'm still perplexed but progress has been made.
Beam me up Scotty!! |

I found a good admin tutorioal where you sent me. Thanks. I guess that means it's working!
Now I need to figure out how to make a tab on the home page that will go to the forum.
Let me know when the other site is transfered to QTH.com. |
