Scott,
I’m still having quite a struggle maintaining my web site: wannatinker.com.
Your article kb-24 has been helpful although I have had problems using it as published (as of 1526 Z, 21 March,2008)
Under your heading: “After you have published your web site, you can use FrontPage to edit the web site, as follows:”
I think item number one should be something like: “Activate your internet provider.” This is, of course, now obvious to me, but while following your step-by-step procedure for the first time, it took me a while to figure out what was missing in the procedure.
So far, so good. When I get to item #6, however, I get an error message from FrontPage:
“The web server does not appear to have any authentication method enabled. It asked for user authentication, but did not send a WWW-Authenticate header.”
Dead in the water again, so I have gone back to using the “Legacy File Manager” (instead of using FrontPage capabilities) with little success.
I have not been keeping track of the hours I have spent over the past month, or so, trying to get some much needed changes made to my web site (with limited success), but whatever the figure is, it is far past the point of being acceptable.
Evidently, adding new web pages, updating existing web pages, etc. under the “new and improved software” (I experienced little or no such trouble under the “old” system) is beyond my capabilities. I am wondering, is there some way to just wipe the website content clean, then use the procedure under . . .
“If you have an existing website on your PC that you want to publish to our web server:”
. . .in your kb-24 article to upload the whole thing from scratch (with corrections and additions already inserted into the files). I hesitate to try any mass deletion(s) using the cPanel editor for fear of getting farther into trouble.
FYI: (in reference to your NOTE in red) the only “anti-virus spyware firewall” that I have on my computer is the one provided by Microsoft. |

Hi Dick.
From our phone call, it sounds like you have this problem resolved.
Thanks for the note about reminding people to be on the Internet before attempting to edit/publish the site. It is easy for us to assume that people have always-on Cable/DSL/Satellite Internet, but I know that is not always true. I will make the correction to our FrontPage publishing directions (article KB-24).
